NovaThreads are hypodermic needles loaded with resorbable threads that can lift and tighten skin without using any incisions. In treatment, needles that are preloaded with polydioxanone (PDO) threads get inserted into the subdermal layer of the skin. When a thread is in place, the body treats it as a foreign body, stimulating collagen production in the process. As a result, the skin looks smoother, younger and more attractive. Within four to six months, the skin fully absorbs the thread, with no scar tissue created as a result.
There are four different types of NovaThreads: Smooth, Twist, Barb1 and Barb2. They are used in one of two ways: Nu-Mesh (creating a mesh or net under the skin) or Nu-Lift (using barbs to grip and lift the skin). The Nu-Mesh technique works on the lips, the neck and the checks; the Nu-Lift technique works on areas like the jaw line and the cheek, the belly and the buttocks.
Frequently Asked Questions about NovaThreads
How do NovaThreads work?
The idea behind NovaThreads is using the body’s own repair processes to stimulate a more youthful appearance in the skin. The way it works is that when the PDO threads get inserted into the skin, the skin tries to heal itself by creating new collagen. Then, in what’s essentially controlled heating beneath the skin, your body is repairing itself with new, younger looking skin.
Will there be any cuts or incisions?
No. The NovaThreads are purely injections, inserting threads into the skin.
How long do the threads stay in the body?
The PDO threads are specifically used because they get absorbed by hydrolysis within four to six months and don’t create any scar tissue.
How long do results last?
The skin structure created by NovaThreads can hold for as long as 12 to 15 months.
